DJ School for Women
Presented by DJ LOVE X PLAY INTENTION
There’s a DJ in there. Let’s turn her up.
(The coolest classroom in Vermont)
Maybe you’re the friend who always makes the playlist. Maybe you’ve watched a DJ at work and wondered what all those buttons, knobs and waveforms actually do. Maybe a part of you has quietly thought: oooh, I’d love to try that.
This is your invitation to take the decks.
DJ School for Women is a five-week, hands-on experience designed to make DJing feel welcoming, accessible, and genuinely fun. In a small, supportive group, you’ll learn how DJ equipment and software work, organize your music, understand the fundamentals of mixing and transitions, and shape the songs you love into a short set that sounds and feels like you.
Along the way, you’ll explore the history and culture of women in DJing, experiment with your creative style and develop your DJ identity.
By the end of the program, you’ll have created your very own four-song DJ set—and you’ll perform it live at a joyful graduation dance party surrounded by your classmates, friends and community.
You’ll learn how to:
Navigate a DJ controller and essential equipment
Set up and use Rekordbox
Build and organize a DJ music library
Understand BPM, phrasing, cue points, EQ, filters and loops
Mix songs and create smooth, simple transitions
Shape a set around mood, energy and musical storytelling
Develop your own DJ style, name and performance presence
Troubleshoot, reset and keep going when something unexpected happens
DJ School is designed for complete beginners. You don’t need previous DJ experience, music theory knowledge or your own DJ equipment. You will need to bring a compatible laptop to each session; complete technical requirements will be shared before the program begins.
Led by DJ Love, a Burlington-based DJ known for creating vibrant, joy-filled dance experiences, in collaboration with Play Intention.
